BUILDING AS 3D TEXTBOOK IN THE MAYOOR SCHOOL, BHOPAL.
Today, the term “High Performance” is a buzzword in school design-and rightly so.
Keeping in mind that nature is a willing teacher we have spread our campus over fifteen acres of land.
The concept of building as a 3D textbook has been brought to the fore in The Mayoor School , Bhopal, such that the built environment can contribute towards a child’s mental and physical development. Some strategies incorporated in the design are enumerated below.

Mathematical Aids in the form of distance painted on floor tiles of the classroom, or using the door as protractor, where the angles are inscribed on the floor. By designing window panes and corridor dado tiles patterns to include the concept of ‘whole and part’ ideas about fractions are reinforced.

Orbital system of planets inscribed on the floor and thematic pathways with rivers of the country painted on the floor along with tributaries provides a three dimensional understanding of these natural systems.

Map reading skills are enhanced by providing children visual aids, varying in scale from a single classroom to the entire School. This would help in understanding the notion of space.

For children to improve motor skills relevant to writing, the grills of windows are used to fashion the security bars in interesting flowing patterns such that when a child moves a finger over them along the length, the movement imitates the movement in real writing. This further improves wrist movement and strengthens finger muscles.

Science concepts through solar lighting, water harvesting, wind energy water and wheel are made fun by incorporating these into the built environment.
The construction will be carried in to two phases .Adding of new elements / dimensions would be a constant process to meet out the demands of changing educational environment.
